Tree-Climbing Phenomenon: Lions climb trees to escape insects, keep watch over their territory, and stay protected from elephants and buffaloes. The umbrella, acacia, sausage, and baobab trees provide perfect resting spots.
Located on the western shores of Lake Manyara, the Maji Moto Kubwa hot springs create a large swampy area. Several hot springs seep from the nearby valley wall, bubbling at over 60 degrees Celsius before flowing into the swamp.
Natural Wonder: These soothing thermal springs provide a unique viewpoint where visitors can relax and enjoy the timeless beauty of the landscape. The mineral-rich waters create a distinctive ecosystem supporting specialized wildlife.
The open grasslands and salt flats around Lake Manyara provide grazing grounds for herbivores including elephants, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and various antelope species. Marshlands offer unique wetland ecosystem experiences.
Wildlife Diversity: These areas support some of the largest concentrations of mammals in Africa. Four of the Big Five can be seen here (all except rhinos), along with hippos, warthogs, impalas, waterbucks, and bushbucks.
